fuel problems

Recommended Posts

I have Malibu sportster 2001 5.7 that will start and run but at random will just shut down and can not be restarted. What found today was that the water separator was out of gas. I then unhooked the gas intake into the carb and no gas was pumping. I jumped the oil pressure switch for the fuel pump and filled the water separator with gas and it pumped gas. then boat ran again. Last year I changed the fuel pump and pressure switch. The boat is running again but my fear is that this issue will continue to happen as it has several times already. Anyone have any ideas thanks Jay

The filter is before the supply pump. It being empty would indicate no supply from the tank. Perhaps junk in the tank intermittantly blocking the pick up tube or supply line pinched/blocked. Does it fail when the fuel is below a certain level? Check the lines & fittings from the filter back to the tank. If the pump stopped working, the filter would be full when you removed it.

Thanks But it happens at all levels and I pumped six gallons of gas through the filter and it all looked good coming out.
