High Oil Pressure, V drive Light and Alarm

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2004 VLX (Upgrade from 1994 Echelon)... and this is what I am getting:

My oil pressure pegs at 100 if I go over 3/4 throttle. The boat alarm will go off and the V drive light comes on? When I turn off the boat and restart the digital readout says "Oil P", but will run fine as long as I don't go over 3/4 throttle (oil pressure about 85, no light, no alarm). The oil level is normal in the engine and trans. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Klepto

Welcome to the site.

What weight oil is in the motor and V-drive? Did you change them when you took ownership of the boat?

It's weird that the eng. oil pressure and V-drive oil light come on at the same time, they're not related at all.

I agree... it is weird. Do you think I have two unrelated problems? I haven't changed the oil yet (the engine oil is about a year old from the dealership, and the V drive oil looks almost new). I feel like it is a sensor problem, but how do i make sure?

Doesn't the gauge only got to 80?

What engine? Could v drive have tranny fluid and not oil, or vice versa (that era I forget which vdrive called for but there is a lot of confusion about which to use).
