what is your favorite oil extractor?

Recommended Posts

Gravity, for some reason I'm one of very few that can get the boat up to operating temp and have about 5 quarts drain out the hose through the transom thru-hull in about 15-20 minutes :dontknow:

gravity has never been my friend, and I have the scars to prove it!

Many others have recommended this one, and so that is what I purchased. It is a bit pricey but worth it. I use this now for my boat, tractor, lawn mower, etc. I did buy a brass adapter to go from the hose connector that comes with the extractor to the threaded end of the tube coming from the oil pan in the boat. That way, I just connect this up and pump the oil out. It works REALLY well. I can get all the oil out in about 5 minutes without spilling a drop.

where did you find the brass connector?

Home Depot

Pic? I have Mityvac bought from amazon.com. I like it but it takes time pump. Good workout though..

I was looking at Mityvac as well, but it says you should not use it with synthetic oil.

i use one of those cheap inexpensive hand drill pumps. bought the adapters at home depot. You have to start the flow by having the drill on high speed but once the oil starts to flow you can slow it right down if you want. It is fast and you don't have to pull the boat out of the water.

Gravity.... I just let it drain overnight after I get back from the lake. I helped someone w/ a Tempo once, and I'll stick to gravity. The others listed above may be better though.

Don't have one, but I believe it is just the 3/4" male hose to 1/2" female NPT. I took the cap off the hose in the boat, took it to Home Depot, determined what size it was and then found the correct adapter.

I picked up this one when I needed to change the trans and V-Drive oil. I still use the hose out the bottom of the boat method for engine oil.

I don't think I would ever have changed the oil in the lawn mower if I didn't have the extractor, took a few minutes and no mess.

Your supposed to change the oil in the lawn mower?

Looking for something to use while boat is on lift or in water, as well as on trailer.

What is your favorite, why?

:plus1: for the Moeller

Go for the 6.5 L. My only regret is that, with the 4 L version, I have to stop part way through and decant some

of the collected oil to make room for the rest.

There's just something wrong with naming a product "Suck Up"

That'd be like naming some toilet paper "Butt kisser"

I've had the same one as bigD's since 1998. It's good and I use it a lot for a lot of things but I would prefer something that was powered!

Anyone know if an '04 LSV with Hammer Head motor has a threaded dip stick? Want that cool oil extractor and understand that is an issue. Also looking for a link to the right kind of code reader for that boat.... got beeping noise :(

I've used this little PELA for years:

:plus1: on the nice looking boat.

I wouldn't have an incandescent shop light with a metal housing in there. Might be too hot, might scratch that super nice looking wood interior.

This is the official code reader.

This is the book that will tell you the codes.

This is a thread on a DIY code reader.

Sorry, don't know about the threaded dipstick but, welcome to the site.

edit, beeping noise usually means engine over temp. or low oil pressure, trans. over temp., or V-drive over temp.
