Rack Selection

Can someone give me a rundown on the different models of Titan racks?

I realize that the spinner racks are the ultimate but I'm OK with the fixed mounts.

What is the difference between the Low Rider and Cruiser racks? Why would I want straight forks versus the angled ones?

I am putting these on the Illusion X tower on my 2008 VLX.

No expert but i have the low riders (spinners). I know for sure the low riders have the dipped forks. Straight vs angled forks depends on where you put the racks. I believe the top mounted racks are straight forks and the angles ones are for the lower section on the illusion x. You will usually put racks on the lower slot before the higher one. I like the spinners and they work well but I don't think it would be the end of the world, function-wise, to have regular ones. However in reality for me it would be because I couldn't get the boat in the canopy without spinning the racks. (something to think about) Also the non-dipped chrome forks, ppl tend to always have the riubber inserts dry out and need to be replaced/re-glued etc. Thats why I went with the low rider dipped forks and am very happy with them. I would also look for combo forks if you can but keep in mind it may not fit ALL surfboards, mind didn't fit my TWP f-18 but does fit my TWP composite x. Neither fit in the wakeboard slots.

One thing I'll say is I would pay a LOT more to have racks without a stupid bungee. Their a pain to fasten, guests always get them in the face when they un-fasten and they're denting my surfboard. One of few reasons I'd ever want an MC

EDIT: Keep reading before you accept any of this

I'll respectfully disagree. Angled forks go on the top set and straight on the bottom. This is to keep the racks further apart so the bindings don't hit. I also Havn't seen many racks on the bottom without ones on the top. I usually see top ones by them selves.

I have the Titan Battle Racks with angled forks, but I don't think they are made anymore. I like the look with the VLX graphics, but not sure they function better than any others

Yeah, listen to Jimmypooh as I'm an idiot. I was thinking my racks were on the bottom but they are actually on the top slot which woudl reverse everything I just said. So as JP said, angled at the top, straight at the bottom, and top section usually gets filled first.

I'm only going to put one set of racks on. In that case, does it matter whether I get straight or angled forks?

I found a deal on a set of Titan Cruiser racks but they have straight forks. I'm inclined to get them but I don't want to have buyer's remorse.

If they are your first set, it doesn't matter whether straight or angled forks. After you get straight ones, be sure you get angled forks as second sets so you can move straight forks from top to bottom then put angled forks on top..

IMO the angled forks look better, and they also get the bindings a little higher so they are out of your vision a little more, but I wouldn't say it's a make or break. However, angled are a little harder for shorter people to get boards in and out of them.

I have an early set of Titan Lowriders. I love them because they are dipped. The ones that have a rubber piece glued in are a maintenance issue IMHO...

Question for all: with an Illusionto lower tower to get in garage, do you have to remove racks?? If so, I suggest adding lift offs to any Titan rack. I have to lift my racks off to get My T-II collapsed enough to get in a true 8' door.

I don't store my boat with the tower down but when we first fot it and had to squeze it into the garage the racks gave us no trouble with the illusion x folded. However I do have swivels, not sure if that effected it, I don't think so though. Also you can't get the Titan racks as spinners AND lift-offs.

I think if I were to go with two sets of racks I would do two angled spinner racks on the top, one on each side. I like the look of that, less likely to get in my way, and keeps short little kids from touching my boards.

Actually never mind, kids seems to think the illusion tower is a jungle gym.
