Fuel Pump AC Delco or Carter

Recommended Posts

As some of you know I posted last week about cleaning out my entire fuel system in my 97 Sunsetter with MPI Indmar Monsoon 1.

I was going to remove the fuel tank but it would have been a huge chore so I was able to unfasten it and tilt it so that i could siphon out all the gas. So I got all the gas out. I also removed the intake in the tank and cleaned out the mesh screen with berryman carb cleaner (it was decently clean when I opened it up.

Also replaced inline fuel filter and new 1/2" fuel line from tank to pump.

I decided i would remove the pump and clean it out. Here is what I found:

The pump was a carter. I bought this boat in 2000 and have never changed the fuel pump. So either malibu used carter pumps or the orin owner who only put 183 hours in three years had to replace the pump. My gut feeling is it came with a Carter. There was also no screen on the intake of the pump?

I am going to replace the pump and I can get the carter at napa for 150...The carter pump has worked perfect for me for 10 years and could be the orginal.

Can anyone give a reason as to why I should pay 100 to 200 more for a Delco pump.
