engine slips upon takeoff

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 Sportster. When I take off at more than half throttle the engine seems to 'slip' for an instant... It keeps pulling and the skier never has a problem coming out of the water, but the slip is there and actually is happening twice or even three times now... I seem to remember an old post about this, but could not locate anything. Any guidance would be most appreciated.

I'm interested on this too. I just thought the prop was "spinning out" for lack of a better term... I have a 2008 vRide and mine will do that when I'm pulling a boarder around a tight turn w/ all of the ballast and wedge down... Figured it was normal? I know my friends Tige', Mastercraft and moomba all do the same.... Maybe we just ride w/ too much weight?

I had the same problem the other day and it turned out my transmission fluid was VERY low. Filled it up and the slipping stopped. Now I'm hoping the tranny wasn't damaged.

I'd start by checking the transmission fluid level

:plus1:

Trey, what you describe sounds like cavitation. I assumed the OP was talking about taking off from a standstill at more than half throttle going straight ahead.

I'd never heard of that term before, but after doing a little research, it sounds like you're def. right. Thanks!
