Thread sealant for ballast tank pumps?

Anyone know what kind of thread sealant is used on the threads that screw into the ballast tank/supply lines? While replacing a couple of pump cartridges, I noticed the bottom part of the assembly, where it threads into the tank was quite loose. Same for another where it attaches to a fill line. The residue doesn't look like thread tape. Any help is appreciated!

Possibly liquid Teflon?

What ever it is it's lousy, almost looks like they just smeared some silicone on the threads. I think you'd be fine with a regular ptfe pipe thread tape.

We just used teflon tape on ours. That silicone stuff just broke down on us for some reason.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, it doesn't seem to hold up. I think I will just re-seal all of them with some good Teflon tape.

You could use Blue pipe dope. I used that on my Fly High fittings for my surf ballast.
