2008 VLX fuel filter leaking

Recommended Posts

I changed the fuel filter on my 2008 VLX today (the one on the rear of the fuel tank). All went well, but it was quite tight both removing the hose/top after removing the snap ring, and reinserting. After reassembling, when I turned the key (without starting), as the fuel pump starts, a couple tablespoons of gas leak out the top around the snap ring. Not good. The good news is I found a simple way to test that it went back together okay (or not). I tried a second time, and had the same results. I've changed the filter before with no issues.

Any ideas on what I need to do differently? I checked the o-ring, and it certainly looks to be in good shape. But, maybe it is not seating correctly.

TIA for the help!

Here's a photo of where it is leaking (where the piece at the end of the orange hose meets the fuel tank insert).

After trying several more times, including another new fuel filter, I've discovered that the o-ring is damaged. Can I get a new o-ring at an auto parts store?
