Pictures of Second Battery/Perko Switch Installation

Recommended Posts

There's 3 posts on the back of the perko. 1 for the main power from the alternator/breaker and 1 for each battery. Then connect the main ground to one of the batteries and link the grounds of both batteries together. Mount on side wall, done.

Thank You.

That's exactly where I want to mount my switch. Do you have to through bolt it, or just screw it to the wall. And If you through bolt it, will I be able to remove/replace the vinyl on the other side of that wall?

Thanks again

I just used stainless screws that were about 3/8" to 1/2" longer than the housing of the perko. Not sure how thick that wall is but I would imagine you'll know if you start to screw past it and into the fiberglass. I don't see a need to through bolt it, mine is solid as a rock.

Ahh...so there is wood (or something more than just a thin layer of fiberglass) between the carpet and fiberglass. Something substantial enough to have a screw bite into. I wonder if mine is the same way. I'm going to try to check it out tonight.

And no problem with the perko being right on the carpet. If I recall, the rear of those switches is not sealed. It holds the terminals off the carpet well enough?

Mine is a '95 but the wall there is only about a 1/2" thick. Two thin gelcoat layers with some foam in between. No wood!

It is enough however to hold a Perko.

Certainly give it a good look before drilling. I think the material is that rigid plastic board, similar to what your seat bottoms are. I'm sure the carpet is touching the terminals but it isn't going to conduct. I originally just mounted mine to the floor, then I thought about the occasional chilli dip

Thanks for the great info and pictures.

On my current '+' battery terminal, there is a 'bundle' of smaller wires that are connected to the main terminal. Should I leave them connected as they are to one of the batteries, or should they be moved to the common terminal of the Perko, giving me the ability to turn everything off.

I have no concerns with the bilge needing to run, boat is inside when not in the lake, not concerned with stereo presets/clock. But if it is common practice to leave that on one of the batteries, I will do it for the benefit of the next owner.

I put everything on terminals fastened to the floor. Mine is kept in the garage also.
