Re: July 2010 Powerboat Mag Wakesetter 23 VLX test.

Well I picked up a copy of Powerboat magazine at Fry's today. A much smaller 8"10"version and a much thinner 68 page version.

Now only 6 print issues a year....boy times have changed. And the chief editor...he was gone too.

I always used to subscribe until they went into the pricing stratosphere as far as boat prices were concerned.

They are the de-facto award-getting "Boat-Of-The-Year" publication for Malibu Boats.... I'm sure no different this time this year.

They called the 450hp engine option on that boat ($8,500 dollar option) the LS3. But there is no LS3 listed (at Malibu, Indmar or GM Powertrain Marine) just an L96 410hp and an LSA supercharged 550hp option. Hmmm...

They wanted at least 50 mph out of it. They didn't get it but they still liked the boat.

For the Powerboat test I don't know why they didn't fit it with the supercharged 550hp LSA option.

And Powerboat didn't even have their wakeboarder there for the test!

I just wonder what is going on here? This info or lack of is more prone to confuse the prospective buyer than help!

That's weird the LS3 is definitely an option in 2010, not sure about the other ones.

And now I see the LS3 on the valve covers in the article.

But iSpec only lists the 350/350hp Monsoon, L96 6.0 410hp, and LSA 6.2 550hp motors.

Mid-year change?

I understand there are a few 505hp LS7(427) engines from the unsold/unbuilt Corvette boats available also.

The Malibu website is now showing the 2011 engine options. The Powerboat test boat must have been a 2010 as the LS3 is an optional engine for the 2010 boats.
