Removing stock exhaust baffles

Intense

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I struggled with trying to remove the stock plastic exhaust on my boat tonight for two hours. For whatever reason, I cannot get them to slide out of the transom. If feels like there's something holding them back like a set screw of something. Has anyone replaced these by themselves and could give me some hints to get the old ones out....just short of cutting them off...

thanks!

You need to spin them to break the sealant. Rubber strap wrench, giant channel locks, something you can use to grab onto the exhaust port and spin it then they should slide right out

Paul,

I've actually managed to break the sealant already....using my patented 'force a razor blade between two objects' method. One of the baffles, I've actually pulled about 1 inch from the transom. I can rotate it about 90 degrees in both directions, but it's still being a P.I.T.A. to pull off. The other one, I've spent less time with. But I have managed to break the sealant.....this one seems less willing to rotate, so far

Well, I finally got them replaced. Turns out there are hose clamps holding the exhaust baffles to the exhaust piping inside the boat. Who knew...I didn't, until I started looking.

I'll post pics shortly
