alternator question

Recommended Posts

2004 23 lsv with 340 monsoon.

I think my stock 70amp alt gave it up this last week. Need to get home from lake to test. But gauge now reads less than 12V which is battery voltage. So the question assuming it tests out bad is can I get a heavy duty stock alternator - if so what would be the options and from what year boats with that engine? Any help is great.

Your local alternator shop should be able to rebuild it to put out 90 amps. Just make sure they are qualified to rebuild marne grade alternators. Marine alternators are treated to resist corrosion and have an enclosed brush assembly to shield any arcing, which could cause accumulated gas vapors in the bilge to ignite. I use a marine Prestolite 90 amp in a 325 Monsoon (same engine except for intake & exhaust manifolds).
