Ballast Bag Question

I picked up two 400lb "Pro Sacs by BI and Fly High" at a garage sale this weekend.

They came with one aerator pump and one attwood pump, but the attwood pump does not work. They are also missing the caps that screw on to the bags. Looks like there is two caps per bag. Oh well, got everything dirt cheap.

1) Where can I buy these screw-on water tight caps?

2) Is there a trick for working these aerator pumps? (the pump runs, but I couldn't get it to prime with a bucket of water).

Can I use the aerator pump for both filling and emptying? (It came with a couple tubes and connectors so I can theoretically reverse the connections, but not sure if this will work). If not, is there a pump I can buy that you can use for both, since I need to buy another one anyways?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The aerator pump won't prime if it's not getting water flow into the fins of the pump (inside the pump body). Put the whole pump in the water, and I bet you get it to prime and move water (I just drop mine in the lake when filling, I think that's what most people do). I use the same pump to fill and empty, just reverse the connection side on the pump (connect to the lower drain plug on the bag to empty). I've found that when the bag is full, it pushes enough water into the pump to prime it to empty the bag.

As far as the connection, does it use the older water bed style connectors (blue connector)? If so, and you need those caps, I've heard that you can buy them at stores that sell water beds (though I haven't done so). If not, Pistol's link above should supply you with any caps / connections you need. The guys at wakemakers are good about answering questions too, it you're unsure what to buy.

Give it a try in your driveway with a hose if you're unsure about how to fill and drain, it's really easy.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. My bags don't have a lower drain plug. The two caps/plugs are on top of the bag. So I'm assuming the pump won't be able to prime itself for emptying. Probably why two pumps came with them, but unfortunately one does not work.

Lay the bag on it's side? Wouldn't that make one uppper and one lower? You only need one pump, but it will need water to prime the pump, most don't seal intenally enought to self prime.
