HELP 06 VLX Smoking !!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so my buddy has 06 VLX and first time out today, just put boat in and headed to his lift not far away. It started smoking out of the engine compartment and heating up.. It blew the rubber piece off of the exhaust in the engine compartment..!

Help.! Any ideas out there ?

yeah this sounds like the exact thing that happened to my buddies wakesetter - pretty new too. - couldn't find all that much wrong with the boat but there was clay or something gumminng up the exhaust ports - they replaced the hoses and plastic parts - flushed the engine with freshwater and put the boat back into service been working fine ever since -

come to find out they run it on a shallow-clay lined lake and load the ballast also replace the impeller

hope this helps

check up into the exhausts and be sure there is nothing blocking them.

Did they get taped shut during winterization (and not untaped), or did something climb in and make a pretty solid nest?

Did you get an over temp signal?

Check to make sure the raw water inlet valve is open.

Yep, it heated up.. It did end up being the raw water inlet valve.. Bummer, they hadn't put that on the list to dewinterize..

So it ended up popping the exhaust tube off, must be a piece for the water intake ?

Has anyone ever had this happen and what is it like to fix.? Hope the motor is ok, didn't run very long, so hope nothing too bad happened.
