Wakesetter??

Wakesetters were all built on the older SV23 wake hull. The "Cut" Diamond hull was not introduced until 2006 on the Response LXi. The only 3 boats to be built on the Cut Diamond hull are the 2006+ Response LXi, Sunscape 20' LSV (or VTX with diamond option), & the Response FXi. As far as 21'+ direct drives built on the SV23 diamond hull, that would be the Sunsetter LXi built from '98-'04. If you're looking for a good crossover with an emphasis on skiing, that would be your best option in an older used boat. The newer option would obviously be the Response FXi.

In 2002 Malibu built what was called a Wakesetter LXi, but it was basically a Sunsetter LXi with a tower & ballast package.

"Wakesetter" connotes a package of options, including tower, plumbed-in ballast

(fore, mid, and aft), wedge, the cool graphics, cleats, docking lights, flip-up

navigation light, et al.. However, from 2009 on, the term

also implies only VD boats.

You could get a Wakesetter LXi (21'8"), as Tracy mentioned, on the SV23 Diamond

hull, or a Wakesetter XTi (22'6") on the V25 Diamond hull, both in 2002, and both

DD boats.

In 2003, you could still get the Wakesetter 23XTi on the V25 Diamond, but the

smaller Wakesetter 21XTi was built on the SV23 Wake hull, while the Sunsetter

21XTi and Sunsetter LXi were on Diamond hulls.

In 2004, I believe that all of the "Wakesetter" boats were on Wake hulls. This

trend continued through 2009, when the XTi disappeared from the lineup, replaced

by the Response FXi (20') on the Cut Diamond hull.

While I'm pretty sure that, beginning in 2006, you could special order a

Wakesetter VLX or Wakesetter LSV on a Diamond hull, I'm not sure that

that same option was available for the DD counterparts (21 and 23 XTi).

That all looks correct to me. The only thing that I'll add is that the "Wakesetter" that the OP is speaking of is the old 21' traditional layout direct drive, Sunsetter/Sunsetter LX/Sunkicker/Wakesetter/I-Ride series of boats. All were built on the SV23 wake hull, from '95 through '08.
