Illusion tower light wiring help

Hey guys

Finally got around to installing my tower lights on my 08 vtx/illusion tower. Installed no problem, two facing forward on the top bar and two facing rear on the side of the tower. Wired everything up properly with relays, using a diagram I found on this site. Added the tower lights switch to my MUX switches no problem.

So go to test them out, the fronts turn on, but the rears do not. Both relays are wired up identical, took a voltmeter and everything is getting power. However it seems like the rear light wire coming from the computer (the all white wire) is not getting switched when I hit the tower lights button to 'rear' or 'all'.

If I swap the front and rear turn on wire on the relay, the rears will light up but the fronts will not. If I disconnect the all white wire and use a jumper wire to have the white/black wire go to both relays, all 4 lights will turn on in the 'front' or 'all' position.

So it seems by my troubleshooting, the white/black wire is the fault. Now is there any reason for this? Any internal mods have to be made to get that wire to be switched? As it stands I can get all my lights to turn on, just not front & rear seperate which would be nice. Any suggestions?

It sounds like either your mux switch is bad and not turning switching that one wire or your medallion module is bad. Either way it's a dealer issue and should be coverd under warranty. There is nothing additional you would need to do other than the installation you've already done, sounds like you hooked everything up correctly.

Crappy... I figured thats what the answer would be. I just had the module replaced a couple weeks ago cause I lost all my dash gauges. I can't see it being the MUX because the same switch turns the others on, as well as does my center ballast on page 2. The switch on page ones is Tower lights (off - front - rear - all - off). Lights come on fine in the front and all position.

Thanks for the reply.

On the mux switch it could just be that one function on the button not working that's causing the problem. All the other functions could still be working.

Yes but when wired front and rear seperately it should turn on the rear lights when switched to 'all' wouldn't it? It seems no matter what its not tripping the relay on the rear wire.

Regardless, its a dealer issue at this point... such a pain in the a** to drag it there for something so small!

Thanks again

That's what I'm saying the rear light turn on could be bad on the switch and the other two funtions could be working properly. I hope you get it fixed soon.
