New Throttle, New Problem

Recommended Posts

I have a '99 Sunsetter LX and I recently purchased the new Teleflex MV3 throttle assembly. The old throttle assembly was the MV2, and it has been discontinued. The old throttle had seen better days, and I thought that the new throttle would help update the boat. I was told by SkiDim that the MV3 should be a direct replacement for the MV2. That held true, but not completely. The MV3's handle is curved or angled backwards towards the driver. Therefore, it needs an extra 2-3 inches behind it in order to shift into reverse. My armrest that covers the radio is blocking the shift arm from moving into reverse. I need suggestions on how to correct this. I'm sure it is NOT a common problem, and I really don't want to put the old throttle assembly back on. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I replaced my MV2 with the MV3, ran in to the same problem. I solved the problem by making a 1/4" plastic spacer and installed it between the MV3 base and the fiberglass. I also removed the shift handle and inserted a couple of stainless washers for an extra 1/8" of clearance. Now it clears the arm rest and still looks great! Hope this helps.

What the hell is teleflex thinking. Boats were made so the shifter is in a comfortable position. If the shifter moves back, it's not comfortable. Who the heck designed this crap. I'm sure some Corp VP approved this piece of sh t

I can hear it now, just like at where I used to work. "ME: Boss, it doesn't work and it doesn't make sense. Boss: Well that's the way they want it. Gotta do it."
