Weather Rant

I have a need to rant a bit. It has been incredibly wet here. In fact, we've already had well beyond the usual rainfall for the month of June and more keeps coming. As a result of all the rain, the river rose 13 feet in 5 days and brought with it a swift current a large amount of debris - like lots of whole trees. The weather is 'supposed' to take a turn for the better this weekend, but I am continuing in a rather busy stretch of work for the next week. This is the worst June I can remember.

Maybe July will be better.....

OK, I feel a little better.

How are others' conditions. Hopefully summer boating has started for others.

Oh man, you should drive down south an hour. It's been nothing but sunshine and blue sky for weeks now.

This weather sucks, but has made long days at work much more bearable. And, with a wet June like this we are due for a great fall (keeping fingers crossed). It's going to be mid 80's this weekend and I am planning on being out both days. Just wish the river wasn't so high, cause it would be nice to avoid the lakes on the first summer-like weekend.

Yea, bizarre amount of rain here too. But we have managed to ride quite a bit in between rain storms.

It's made up for the lack of snow we got this winter though, our lake is a bit high, but not a lot.

I thought it rained all the time in the pacific northwest. Ha! That stinks. We had a ton of rain this past winter which thankfully filled our lake up from the 5 yr drought we were in. Not sure whats worse rain or drought causing lake to be so low its dangerous.

Glad you have been getting out. We haven't been out yet this month. I don't even have the boat in the water - which has never happened before at this time of year. The river is really not safe right now for boats or people.

We drove by the river today and it looked almost like it does during the winter months - brown and raging.

We may see about getting the boat in next week.

to put things in perspective -the weather in the Northwest has sucked!!! too much rain and too cold - but like some of the others - we're holding out for a warmer June and July!! - we'll see - I would like to pack away the drysuits and wetsuits and work on not using the heater and shower as much... got about 20 more hours on the boat since february - we're keeping it going-but would really appreciate some decent weather....

Spam Happy- man can I TOTALLY relate!! It's driving me crazy. I have been jonzing to get my new bu out for the first time yet this season!!! I bought it at the end of last season so it driving me CRAZY. I spent a good part of the winter out in my garage working on it, adding tower speakers, amps, you name it! Now - like you said - finally a good weekend forcast (I'll believe it when i see it!!). That all being said - like you said - tons of trees and debrix floating down the river so very VERY hesitant to go out and risk hitting a dead head, etc. May just have to pull the boat out of the garage - turn in the tunes, crack a beer and hang out in it in my driveway...lol

And to think a few weeks ago I was complaining that the weather in AZ was only in the mid 80s and thats too cold for us. We went last weekend and it was 110 degrees which is more our style. Anything between 100 and 110 is my ideal temp for boating. Oh, the water was a little chilly at 73 degrees...looking fwd to it being 80 or so.

But I agree, the wind or rain just completely ruins any type of activity outside, especially boating.

Its no better in central Mi. Even if the sun comes out. No if it stops raining there is so much junk in the water you don't want to chance a boat ski or body.

Yeah, the weather hasn't been the greatest. Like Bill, we've been getting a decent amount of riding in, but man I miss those sunny days. Until the rivers went up we were getting unbelievable water......now it's strictly surfing as going 22 mph would be just a liiittttle dangerous.

Anyway, hope we get that weather they are calling for this weekend and I hope you can get out and ride soon OB!

BTW, we had a pretty nice day yesterday. I went in to work with my gear in the truck, with plans to meet a couple of friends at the dock for a nooner. Over the course of the morning, a couple of National Guard pilot friends called & they had the day off & were planning on spending the day on the lake. So I strolled by the bosses office & told them I was taking the rest of the day off. 4 of us got in 2 sets each over the course of about 6 hrs..... & killed a 30 pack of Stones. Water temp went from 64 degrees to 70 while we were out there!!

I was starting to wonder when this thread was gonna pop up! It hasn't been just June, May was horrendous as well. This weekend is looking like its going to have some promise though! Yippee  Gonna just have to man up after working all night Friday and get out to the lake Sat morning. Hopefully we are now kinda done with this weather for the summer.

Last weekend was cold and rainy ... boarded for 2 hours in the rain, what the heck.

Hot and humid this weekend ... with scattered rain.

This weekend I finally get to pull the boat out of the garage and prep for the season. This rain is unreal and I am curious what the snow melt will do to the river levels this weekend considering the water level is so high at the moment. PLEASE LET THE SUN STAY!!!!

Yep.. lame year in the Pac NW this year. I swam 2 miles in Sammamish this morning and the water temp isn't bad.. but still cold. I drove a friends Moomba across lake wash last night in the rain storm... very very lame... I know it rains in June here.. but it's still lame. I grew up in AZ... June is when you have to get up at 4 am to beat the heat... and i spent every other weekend at Powell... i miss those 90 degree nights.

Get used to it. In years past we were never able to bank on the weather being descent for Memorial Day or 4th of July..... which is why we would always head east to the desert.

There is a bright side to this weather but only for me.....

I hurt my back bad enough that I missed two days of work recently....I have to say that if the weather was good, I don't think my back would be recovering as well as it is, I just don't know how to say NO.

Sorry about your back! The weather has been terrible at home here as well. Creeks and rivers are really full, finally we have a little sun today. I have been in the middle of a couple of large turnarounds and projects for the past few weeks so the rain makes me hate my job a little less right now!

Here's hoping to a sunny weekend.

obski & jetski,

The remote very nearly flew through the tv last night when the weatherman reported that it would be nicer in Portland & Salem than it will be over here. Seriously, WTF!?! :throwpc:

You missed it??

Practice makes perfect.
