Teak Swim deck replacement

Recommended Posts

My 06 V Ride has a teak swim deck that is trashed and either needs new teak wood or will need to buy entire deck. Any ideas on where to buy either?

You would be surprised what an hour of sanding would do for your deck. My 1998 sunsetter has the original deck and I have sanded it down twice. Comes out looking like new if you keep it oiled a few times a year. There was someone on this site that had a new fiberglass deck in the boat parts for sale section a while back. I think they wanted $800 for it.

How did you guys rough up your teak so bad it needs to be replaced? Did your boat get attacked by a beaver heard.

i have a one that i have taken off and replaced with newer model fiberglass if you are interested, might need a little refinish but not as bad as i have seen. as far as damage there is none. I also have the brackets if you need those too.

If JohnK doesn't want it I'd be interested. Does it have an access door?

YES with access door for wedge. I will try to take some pics of it and post them.

In case you decide to go the new route.....

Teak World 615-444-7269

They built the teak platform on my 2008. Maybe they built yours too.

I would like to be next in line for the used teak platform; I have to get something done with mine. When I purchased my boat 3 years ago the platform has a board that is warped...now it's getting worse and I am tired of looking at it.

If that's the only issue, you should try fixing it. Mine was repaired by the prior owner who eliminated a piece underneath and put in Trex, carriage bolted it all together, etc. Strong, but doesn't look good. That and I want an access door for the wedge, as most of my boating now happens way before the water gets warm. And my old deck has the open spaces in between the boards, which allows some spray in the back of the boat to come up from the wedge. I've been considering building one from scratch, which may be a winter project. You can get teak from lots of different dealers on line and maybe locally.

Yes, a pic would be great, as well as dimensions. The 2001 LSV shows a 7" larger beam than my Echelon, but I'm figuring I can make it fit. That is if it's not too far from Michigan, that's a heavy item to ship.

Thanks for all the responses back, i am very interested in iggy23lsv teak. how much do you want? Where you located? What happened was early on the swim deck was backed into a tree...no doubt by the beavers. Bottom line it is damaged.

John don't panic yet there is a company that makes the original fiberglass swim decks for Malibu. It will take me a while to find it but it is in one of these threads. I was quoted around 220.00 I will check my e-mails.

Beavers backed a tree into your swim platform? Man those are some tough beavers.

Thanks for the effort, that is a smoking hot price. Let me know.

John sorry it took so long try Seadeck.com.

Excuse the interject, but that site just provides the pad that goes on top of the platform, not the platform itself, hence the low price. Pretty sure you can only get the new fiberglass deck thru the dealer. Or NDawg!

If anyone reading this thread has a scrap piece of teak deck I'd be interested in purchasing. One of the pieces making up the wedge access door on my 2001

Response Lx is cracked. The piece is 3 3/4" wide by 7 7/8" long and has a hole in it for the latch. I can drill new hole so really just looking for that one short piece of Teak if anyone has a piece laying around and wants to help a fellow Malibu'r. Thanks!

The spray and a door are not hard to fix or install. I used a cutting boards to block the water from spraying up onto the rear seat, and made a door and supports. I have had three adults on it with no issues.

Ha!! I completely missed that the first time I read this topic

My f/g platform is done, just waiting on the hydro-turf to get here. I will sand and oil up my old teak and post it for sale soon, with wedge access door, no brackets though.

Hey, looks like you've got something there. The biggest thing bugging me with mine is the stupid carriage bolts that the prior owner put in it to hold it together, just looks bad.

I've seen the access door open from different directions on different boats, some hinged at the front edge towards the transom and some hinged at the rear edge. Which is better?

Iggy, PM me when you send the email, it's probably will go to spam (or already has...haven't seen it though).

I thought of that also when I was installing the door. I like it opening to the transom. That gives you plenty of room to reach through.

You could get some plugs made, take the bolts out and put new screws in like there should be or get a different type of SS bolt, counter sink them, and cover them with a plug. Most hardwood lumber companies will have teak or look for a woodworkers supply.
