Floor Material Replacement

Recommended Posts

One of the boats I am looking at is a 2004 VLX. When I asked the seller if it had ever been wrecked or had major repairs he told me the only thing was that the dealer has some honeycomb material on order for the boat floor to repair a factory defect. Is this a common thing? Just wondering if this was like a recall that all boats from that year/model needed or if this boat has possibly been exposed to some rough treatment.

There was never a "recall" and I wouldn't say it was common, but it has happened. There are reports of the honeycomb being "soft" or making a crackling sound like aluminum foil. If you go the the search and search for "honeycomb" you will see the reports of this.

i don't believe that this is a structural problem.

i think that the honeycomb aluminum is used as 'flooring' over the (direct drive) propshaft tunnel and the 'cooler'.

not sure but i'm guessing that it's use is similar (not structural) in the v series.

it's also used on some of the 'ski locker' covers.

the honeycomb aluminum material is expensive so get the seller to pony up for it.

My 2004 23 LSV had that problem. It is just a floor panel. Very easy to replace. Malibu sent a new one at no charge and I installed it myself.
