Heater Core PN (Napa Special) Anyone?

Recommended Posts

All,

I pulled the heater core out of my 2002 XTi last night. It's a 3 outlet Heatercraft. I pulled the core itself from the housing, and took the core to both Advanced and Auto Zone last night and those guys were little help without any PN or cross-reference. It was almost 9 PM by the time I got there so Napa, KOI, or some of the better/smarter shops were closed.

Since this is a popular thread of late, does anyone happen to have a receipt for their Napa part that fits a three outlet box? If not I'll give those guys a try today and pass along the PN to the list for future reference.

I reinstalled the Heatercraft unit and bought a $0.99 5/8" T-fitting to bypass the heater core, so I am up and running with no leaks and don't need a heater anytime soon with OH weather in the 80s this week! Still...I want to fit it right at some point.

Thanks,

-- Mike

Hey Mike,

I gotta admit, all the heaters I've messed with over the years, I've never replaced a 3 vent core. I had one in a 205 a few years ago but never had it go bad on me. Wish I could be of more help.

I have pulled the core/fan box out altogether & replaced it with a 3" piece of 3/4" PVC to join the two hoses together. Should allow you to have the core out for comparison purposes, yet run the boat for the summer.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info - that's exactly what I did - ran a bypass without the original core installed, but yet everything's back in place. Hit the fan switch and the heater fan will run...just no heat. I have the core in my car so I can try a few part places.

The core's a really big SOB...over a foot long. This heater has two outlets for your feet, and one larger outlet for the pull out hose between the bow walk-thru.

Sweet, huh. I had a Y on 2 of my air hoses.... 5 vents total. 2 windshield defoggers, a vent by the driver's feet & 2 hot tubes, one of which was 6' long. Best heater I ever owned!

Hope the guys at your local Napa can find something to help you. Is there any markings on the core at all?

Not a mark anywhere, unfortunately. I peeled the foam off (came off easily) from around the outer edge to look for a PN or marking...nada...
