Factory Bow Ballast Problem

Recommended Posts

When filling my tanks and after the tanks have filled, my bow ballast is not filling at a normal rate. when completely filling all my (Factory) tanks, the bow ballast is the only one not to fill all the way. The pump is still running but can never seem to get above the 50% mark when filling. Might i add there isnt anything on top of the tank when filling other than the cusions. Any suggestions to what might be wrong here. THANKS!

This is a known problem, and unfortunately there is no easy fix. To fill the tank fully you need to bring the boat up to speed to get the bow higher so that the vent fitting is above the level of the tank.

Where is the vent located at? Must be something new with the new model. Can you move the vent?

Yep, Malibu issued a bulletin for it which is specifically for the '09 VLX. The problem is that the vent connection on the top of the hard tank is below the level of water when the tank is full because the nose of the boat is down so the tank is at an angle. There's no way to fix it, short of replacing the tank with a different one that has the vent connection in another spot.
