New here and new to Malibu, last boat was a 1987 wellcraft cuddy. I am going after an 2005 LSV 23', monsoon 340 with pretty much everything. I have two boy's 4 & 5 years old and live on a lake in CT. After looking at alot of boats (on line) I have chosen this one hoping it will suit my family's needs for many years. It has less than 50 hours on it and expect condition to be good. Any thing I should be concerned about this model, year, engine etc.??? I will be driving 8 hrs. to get it next week if all cheks out ok. Thanks for any reply's

you will love it. congratulations. there is a bit of a learning curve driving an inboard, so try to stay out of traffic for the first little while. Backing up and docking will require some additional practice.

here is an article, found on this site, on buying a used boat. http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/page/articles.html?record=11

Congrats on your new purchase I have the same boat. You will find out some things differences between this boat and your Wellcraft but time behind the wheel will fix that.

I have had many performance boats most of them BU's, without a doubt it is the nicest I have had so far.

Joining this sight is one of the best things you could of done. I just joined 2 weeks ago the people on here are just GREAT (no big heads guys) with info and help. Ask anything and they answer to help the Crew out. No BS remarks

With the age of your family you will have a long time trying to out grow this boat. Your LSV will do everything that you and your family will ever need for a long time. Good luck

Welcome and I echo the comments on learning to drive. I had an outboard and an I/O for over 20 years, and yet there are some subtle differences between them an a DD that take some getting used to.

I really suggest going out into the middle of the lake and just doing some maneuvers. slow turns, backing up, etc. to get a feel. The main difference is that the center of a turn in an inboard is the middle of the boat (which means the back end will swing around and hit stuff  ) where on an I/O or O/B it is near the back of the boat.

There are some great videos on line of coming in to dock, loading, unloading, etc. Worth searching for.

The other thing i learned quickly is that if the boat is not in gear, it doesn't respond much to steering inputs. you need to be driving water across the rudder. This is quite useful when loading on the trailer.... I have learned to just go into and out of gear quickly to make adjustments.

You're going to love this ride. I owned a Wellcraft before my Sunsetter and there is no comparison. I will never go back to outboards or I/O's. After pulling my teenagers all afternoon in the Bu, I don't feel drained from tugging on the steering wheel.
