Changing prop pitch

Two mins after putting the boat in the water for the first time on memorial weekend I hit a rock and bent my prop.

I took it to a prop shop and he said that he could just fix it for $140 or he could lower the pitch 2" from a 16 to a 14" for the same price. I was thinking about getting a ACME 1235 prop, but cant dish out the $625.00 for it right now. My prop now will be a 13.5" X 14". My question is has anyone changed their pitch on their stock prop (ACME 537) and if so has it helped with getting a loaded boat up on plane.

That is to bad, I just picked up a 537 yesterday after a month of looking. The few things about changing your pitch is the RPM's, hole shot and speed. I was just down the prop route I can feel your pain.

The Same thing Happened to me too and I got my prop reparied and pitch change, and now with the change the boat has more power out of the hole but I lost some top end speed which I dont mind. Its a wakeboard boat not a speed boat

After trying a couple props on our 06 (same hull as your 08) We went with the 1235. We get a much better hole shot, and it only droppped our top end by about 1-2 mph. We can hit the RPM limiter on certain conditions, so you should watch that, but most people don't run that fast on a regular basis.

$625 seems pretty high by the way. I would suggest looking around for a better deal on a prop.

Im actually abou to leave to go pick it up. i knew it was going to change the RPMs and Speed but i really dont care about that. i topped out my boat on tuesday and i hit 49.6mph with 3 people and full tank of fuel. way too fast. I talked to the prop guy about that OJ prop and he said that they dont compare. Since AMCE is CNC'd and OJ are hand built. he said i would be much better off with my olf ACME 537 then going to the Bigger OJ prop. thanks for the replys guys

49 mph in a VLX?? Better calibrate that speedo too.

I guess he could always use a GPS to see what his speed really is.

I have been told that I should think about changing the pitch of my prop from 17 to 15. My prop has been damaged from the previous owner andd if i have to buy another one...should I go with the 15? I have a Mercury Powertrim 1500 (150hp) outboard.

Thanks!

 This guy is so behind the time's. OJ hasbeen making CNC props for years, just take a look at there home page or better yet call Eric him self.

I can give you ton's of people that have OJ props on ski and wakeboard boats that have nothing but great things to say. Matter of fact go down and take a look at a ACME and OJ side by side and feel what one is heavier and has a thicker blade. I was out to day on a friends boat and hit a few good size sticks with his OJ and nothing happens, thank goodness and not to say you can't bend an OJ but it can take a little more of a beating IMO. One other thing you can do is try out two props with about the same size and you tell me what you feel when driving by the seat of your pants. Both OJ and ACME are both top notch company with the best product and customer service.

OJ is now starting to offer a new prop in the fusion line that starts out being CNC'ed and shaved down by hand and balanced.

Quote from Eric Johnson "Currently the 14.25 X 14.5 LC 4-blade is the only FUSION I have available. Cupping can be customized for a particular application. The standard cup in the FUSION is .110. "
