leaky starboard rear quarter of 96 Response LX

Recommended Posts

hello! 96 Response LX is running great. I am getting some water on the carpet in the stern area, starboard. I'm thinking that it may be from the swim platform assembly, that it needs to be re-seated. Is there anything else that it could be? (I checked speedometer hoses and looked for anything else...)

It could be the connections to the brass tubes which are part of your AirGuide Speedos that are leaking. It could be the tubes themselves. Pull you gas tank cover and look at them when someone else is driving. They are located in the starboard stern

Do you have a shower on that boat they tend to leak.

we do. It's on the port side and I checked it. Good call as it was leaking last year and replaced the hose, hose nozzle and clamp...

seems like consensus is speedo pickups. I'm also going to re-seat the swim platform attachments as well as check the speedos.

thanks everyone.

In my 03 response lx, we had a big problem this year. The bolts that held our platform brackets on had come loose. I'm assuming it just happened over time. Had to take the trunk top out and put the nuts back on the bolts with the backing plate. My whole platform went from fine to dangling in like two seconds. Tightened everything back on and changed the nuts to locking nuts and it's fine again. But we took on water quick. Might wanna check your bolts. You can just reach your hand down there and feel where the nut is and if it's loose.

Check the bilge pump tube connection. This happened to mine, so whenever the bilge came on it pumped water onto the carpet behind the Rear seat. I guess it just came loose and vibrated off. Sounds crazy, but if the water is on the carpet this may be it.

ok. Interesting finds. Here's what it was. A leaky connection between the speedo hose and that brass-like tube thing. I just got it as tight as I could but this fall plan to snip a bit of the hose off, reconnect and perhaps add a small clamp. I couldn't get to the bolts for the swim platform but don't think that was it anyway as they wouldn't dampen the carpet as they're at a lower level. In order to re-seat both starboard and port swim platform connections I'll need to pull the gas tank out, which of course will make it possible to either replace or fix the speedo tubes.

For the rest of the summer we're just going to enjoy the boat. For Fall advise, has anyone ever pulled the gas tank out? How easy? Thanks,Phil
