i ordered a new 05 vlx on 3/28. the dealer is now advertising a sale with no sales tax on the weekend of 4/16. this sale was not mentioned at the time i ordered my boat. still do not have a spray date for the boat. is it wrong for me to go back to the dealer and ask about the sale and ask for the sale discount? the dealer is doing this with a marina in the area so it has no doubt been planned for a while. i hate to think i could have gotten a better deal.

The old cliche "It never hurts to ask"

The way I always look at things is it's just business.

Their business is to make money. Your business is to keep as much of your own money as possible.

If it were me I would not hesitate in calling as soon as they opened today for business and then you may have peace of mind or be frustrated until you take that boat out for the first outing. When you hear that motor crank for the first time you may just forget everything else.

Nothing like having a brand new boat that was made just for you. You will quickly start to forget the stress of the sales transaction.

best wishes

......and don't forget to post up some pics of your new toy once you get it home. :)

Someone has to pay the tax. Chances are the boat will cost enough more to offset the sales tax. Doesn't hurt to talk to your dealer. You might get something.

88 is right, chances are the deal will be similar since they will just keep the markdown on the boat lower, but call and ask since all you can get is a no.

Just FYI, the weekend of the 16th is Malibu's national demo day. It's a promotional thing. You can't fault the dealer for advertising a sale during an event like this. On the flipside if you were unable to negotiate a decent deal at the time you bought then I'd go back and ask. Also check the fine print to make sure his special isin't on "in stock" only boats. Sometimes dealers have more incentive to move stuff they have. My motto: If you don't ask they can't tell you yes.
