ok this weekend i took the boat out for the second time. while launching the boat i could not get it started..ended up pulling out and monkeyed on it till finally dumped some starter fluid down it and it started. after it started it seemed to run fine after warmed up but if you where running for a bit stopped for hour or two then it wouldnt idle right and ended up having to dump more starter fluid down it to get it to start and then ran fine. this is a new tank of gas. anybody got some input on where to start looking? thing will turn and crank strong just seems like it doesnt get gas.

do you have to give it any gas while starting it? with the trans. lock out the throatle only goes .25 forward.

any help? id be thankful

We had to gas our '92 Euro pretty heavily to get her to start. Also, you can give it full throttle in reverse with the trans lock out.

Plus1.gif That's what I do too, trans lock comes out when starting cold and all throttle happens in the opposite direction.

what was the throttle position when you were starting?

i have tried in neutral and then quarter forward throttle but nothing... she also will not idle worth a darn

do you think that the electric choke could be bad? anybody have a good test method?

The electric choke is just an electrically heated coil that opens the choke butterfly up once it heats up. I live in a hot climate so I have my choke butterfly is adjusted about half way open with the fast idle set to ~1000rpm. The fast idle starts shutting down quite fast once it fires along with the air pushing it even more open.

Use a fake-a-lake and check it at the house, that is unless you dock it. Ensure that the fast idle came does open the throttle more than the hot idle setting by giving the throttle a pump when cold (it is on the left side). Again, the fast idle cam should hold it open just slightly. The choke butterfly should be partially closed. Also, ensure that the card does squirt gas when you pump it. It should only take one or two full pumps with gas in the carb to start an engine in warm weather. If the engine tries to fire but then chugs until you can open the throttle up, the choke may be to tight. In this case you will have to manually bend the little rod on the carb (right side at the top) that goes to the choke butterfly to let more air in.

As far as the electric choke setting, there are notches on the little round housing. I have mine turned so the notch is on the highest line on the carb choke housing. If you poke the butterfly with your finger when it is cold, you should feel some resistance and it should flip right back to where it was.

Choke adjustments are a funny thing. You may have to mess with it several time to get it to work farely well for you.

Good luck.
