Infant Life Jacket?

The vest itself is the problem, not that he’s too hot. As soon as we put him in the SPF sun suit with a built in life vest he’s just fine, when we take the vest off, or my little adrenalin junky when we go fast. The problem w/ the built in vest is that it doesn’t roll him over as the Inversion vest does, only keeps him on the surface. It’s just not a risk that we are willing to take to modify a CG approved vest that I know keeps his head up out of the water. He only wears the other vest when we are playing with him directly; maybe we are overly concerned but just can’t be too careful around water. Drowning is the 2nd leading death to kids 2 and under.

You can't be overly concerned with little ones around water. Comfort takes a very distant second to safety. We used to shorten our day on the water if the kids (under 3) became too hot or uncomfortable in their vests. It could be inconvenient but it was way better than the alternative.

Exactly thats what we do as well. I think we're heading into the terrible 2's territory so everything is a complaint...lol

I was talking to my wife just yesterday about this. I pretty much grew up around water. On the lake, at the lake, and in the lake. My parents were, lets just say not the real protecive type. They did send me to swim lessons every summer, I remember that, but I had to be 8-10 years old. The strange thing is I never remember wearing life jackets, even when in the water we were always on our own. And wearing one on the dock was just silly. So I now have my own little one to think about and I worry sick about something happening to her. I've been told they do swim lessons starting at 6 months and plan on having here there for those!

Isn't the water there for cooling off?

Yes, I know what you mean. I was talking about when they were around 6 months old and didn't necessarily like getting dipped in the lake. Now that they are 5 and 9, they go in the lake to cool off (ALWAYS with a lifejacket on).

After alterations, we did extensive testing. Threw him in 10 times in a row and it kept him face up 9 of those. Crazy.gifShocking.gif jk
