2004 Malibu Wakesetter - Ballast Info

My buddy and I recently purchased a 2004 Malibu Wakesetter VLX. It is our first wakeboard boat and we are going to put it in the water this weekend. It has two 250 hard tanks in the back, a 500 fatsak in the middle and the manual wedge. It is better to fill the tanks and use the wedge, or is it better to use them separate?

I fill everything up and put the wedge down for wakeboarding, but it is a personal preference. Some people don't like the way the Wedge effects the wake. I would just try boarding with and without the wedge and see which you prefer.

Depending on your skill level, I would say to fill the ballasts up and then try it with the wedge up and down. I personally like the wedge. Also, play around with the ballast too. I always have more ballast on the left side because that is the side I jump more on and therefore want bigger air.

If the wake does get washed out at all, try adding some weight up front.

Thanks for the info. We went out for the first time this past weekend and it was awesome. . We did as everyone suggested, filled up Ballast and then put the wedge down. I like the wedge down and ballast full.

We board on Otsego Lake in Northern Michigan. Where are you at?

Next question is rope legnth. We were at 70 feet and I'm thinking we should go to 65. Thoughts?

Welcome,

I would try it without the wedge first ... then play around with it.

Where are you located?
