Adding second battery to power audio equipment...

Looking to add a second battery to power my audio equipment. I'm gonna have a small amp, head unit, 4 speakers, and a 10in sub.

Mainly wondering if Optima batteries are worth the money, or if it is all just hype. If not Optima, which brand?

How long do the batteries on your boat last and what are you powering?

Thanks Pete! I can get a big-a** deep cycle Interstate for about $100 versus $250 for an Optima.

There are alot of them, nothing wrong with optima but most people only buy into they hype and don't actually understand they are paying twice as much for an optima as they would for another battery with twice the power output and storage capacity.

Just get the Interstate SRM-29 instead, it's the equivalent of 2.5 Optimas and about half the price. Oh damn you can't lay it on it's side .

Any Optima fans out there?

There's a ton of guys on here that are drinkin' the optima (thanks to AreaMike for emoticon)

I had one and it only lasted 2 seasons. I'm an ex-tow truck driver and ex-mechanic I used to see a lot of battery issues. I've got an Interstate in every vehicle I own, drive, or maintain (4) only thing that doesn't have one is my bike.

I recently looked into it and found the optimas at Sam's Club for a decent price (150). In the end I decided the bang for the buck wasn't worth it. I ended up picking up three interstates for the price of two Optimas, and now have more than twice the power than two optimas.

Even the smallest marine interstate battery has 40% more ah's than an optima blue top.
