Barefoot Longline

What line length do you barefoot at longline? I have a 2006 RLXI and i use a 100' non stretch line. I have been barefooting for 10+ years and can go 1 foot, back deeps etc but this year I want to concentrate on one foot slalom forward and back. Years ago I did this a lot but have not really concentrated on it with our RLXI, yet. The 100' was perfect behind my parents 04 SLXI. I am getting ready to purchase some new gear and if another line length would be better I want to add it to the list. THe rope I have has a 10 and 20' off section and since I have not been able to get on the water yet in our boat (we have gone a few times this year with my parents) I figured I would post it to the crew to find what others recommend.

Im no footer, but i have experience towing footers behind the two boats you mentioned.. If you like 100ft, that is most likely where you will stay. If i was to say either longer or shorter, perhaps you would go a little shorter behind the lxi.. simply because the wake isnt as long as the sunsetters wake due to it sitting SLIGHTLY depper in the water than an RLXi.

The most important thing will be speed. How fast do you foot?

I foot at 85 feet behind my RLXI, and that length is fine. If you are serious about your footing, and you don't ski with any shortline skiers, you may want to invest in a supression plate. They do help the wake.

WEDGE is that you??? Talesfromthefoot.??

We usually foot at 85 or 95 feet behind my RLX barefooter.

If you are going to actually work on one foot slaloms for competition you should do it at 75 foot comp length. The boat wake will make a difference though. Do you have an SSP on your boat? That helps with the wash and shape of the wake a little on the reponses. However, even at 85 feet, my boat has a little dip-see-doo in the middle and you still have to somewhat pay attention when wake crossing.

If you are doing one foot wake crossing for recreation, then just experiment with different lengths. Longer lengths means wider table and longer to cross the wake is all. Yet longer lengths also means less turbulence and easier to cross.

EDIT: If that's you wedge. Are you coming to footapalooza??

I think you may have the wrong Wedge but I appreciate the help anyway.

I will typically run about 42mph. If it is glassy I may kick up 43. I like the 100' as it puts me much behind the prop wash but I don't like the wide stance of the wakes so I may try 90 and then 80 and see how it feels. I cannot get on the water till next weekend so wanted to throw it out there to help pass the time.
