Ballast switch not working

Recommended Posts

Had the boat out for the first time this year, ran great. The only issue I had was one of the ballast intake pumps/switch was not working, but the drain pump/switch worked. Got back home and replaced the intake pump, still did not work. Hooked the intake pump up to a jump pack and the pump worked fine. Checked the circuit breakers and all was fine. Not sure where to go from here, since the drain pump/switch works but not the intake pump/switch.

Looking for any advice, thank you.

I had the same problem last season and it wasn't the switch at all. I called the dealer and he said the actual pump gets stuck sometimes. He told me to find it, remove it and unscrew the top. I did it while on the lake and on the phone with him. Sure enough, something was in there that caused it to get stuck. Threw it back together and worked fine. If I remember right, the pump was under the back seat and there is a left and right side. Its real small, like the size of your fist.

Thanks for the info, tried that and still nothing.

Have you checked with a circuit tester to see whether you are getting power to the pump? That seems like the next logical step. Assuming you aren't, then see whether you are getting power at the switch to narrow down whether the switch is bad or there's a wiring issue.

If it were me and you had no power going to the fill pump, but to the drain pump, I would swap switches just to make sure it is the switch itself. If the situation reverses, then you know what you need. That would be the cheapest solution. Switches are only about $15.
