Boat Name

When I was a kid in ATL on Lake Lanier, my dad had a 1975 Intruder he named HAYWIRE. I thought it would be cool to continue his tradition and name my boat HAYRIDE. I've had a hard time finding coloring to go with the 05 VLX decals because I want the coloring to be consistent across the transom. I wanted the exact, but now, I'm settling for somewhat consistent. I've read forums all over, which have been very helpful, and considered both domed and regular marine stickers, vinyl I think.

What do you guys think of the picture in the link? Its 6'' tall by 26'' long. It looks close enough to me, but maybe someone can chime in with something closer. Any comments about the vendor, signspecialist?

Thanks in advance.

If that's your thing go for it...but here's my first impression, it reminds me of the "Transformer" decal that so many people didn't like, myself included. Is that the decal you have on the sides of your vRide..?? Hayride is a cool funny boat name, I don't think it fits the attitude of the decal. JM2C. But go for it you like it.

No, just the plain marine stickers. The drip molded decal would be even cooler, but the manufacturers of the malibu decals are really busy right now with large orders, rather than my one off. At least, that's what I was told.

OH...cmon Nate. Transformers, More than meets the eye!

And Hayride is a real cool name. Especially if you're a redneck!

...And no you cannot pull the BU with the Bravada unless you want to replace the transmission soon.

See if Domednumbers.com can do them for ya.

Ndawg, I agree. I don't think its for a lot of people, but I can't see putting a font on there that isn't consistent with the standard 05 VLX lettering and decals. Its batman forever font, but it mine as well be Transformers.

The sides are standard, with the flame decal the W, and malibu doomed lettering.

Transom is standard right now too. http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=820

I grew up watching Transformers, they were radical and bodacious!!

I'm from Ohio, I just live here now, so I won't take offense to that

The tranny is starting to get clumsy, so we'll see.

Could take the malibu out of the current transom decal, leave the flames, and put Hayride in there using the same font as the malibu. That is a different font right? Not the transformer/batman font..?

Ndawg, I considered that option, but for the black to stand out, it needs the decal background. My boat has a black transom. I thought the name would be too small since the malibu is about 3 inches tall by about 9 inches long if that.

I'm going to remove the flames decal and push them out towards the edge of the transom, so they are still there, with HAYRIDE in between the flame decals. I don't think I'll be able to use the same flame decals once I remove them, so I'll have to order new ones, which are of course twice as much as the boat name itself.

Well that's all I can come up with, get it done and post some pics, it usually looks better on the boat anyways

I'm with Ndawg on this one. Just pull the center oval and make a new one with your logo in it. It'll be plenty big enough to read and look more like it belongs there. Plus it'll save you having to buy new flames.

Bill Air Junky has or had something similar on his or his buddy's boat. I don't know, but I've seen pictures on other forums. Maybe he'll be nice enough to chime in with a pic.

Yea, I modified the Malibu logo on the back of my Vride. The original purchaser of the boat had VLX graphics put on the boat instead of the Vride graphics. I just modified this one so it "fit my needs".

BTW, I haven't touched the graphics on the sides of the boat...... yet. But one day.....

Bill Air Junky, that looks pretty good. How did you get the W out? Razor blade?

Malibuswany, what are the specs on your boat name? That looks pretty sweet too. I guess I'll try and leave another message with Domednumbers.

Thanks everyone for your help with this.

These are 4" numbers. I think I would do 5" if I could do it again.

Malibuswany, would you make the boat name wider if you had to do it over again?

I'm thinking about going with 6'' tall letters and 20-25'' wide.

I removed some letters/numbers from the previous owner from the transom and trailer last weekend with a razor. The transom was easy and the WD40 removed the leftover adhesive quickly. The trailer wasn't as easy. I chipped the paint a few times, small chips, and then had to repaint.

Try using heat to get the adhesive to soften up..... direct sunlight, a hair dryer or a heat gun works great. Then a lot of the adhesive can be removed by dabbing at it with the old decal. Typically I can get 90% of the adhesive off this way, then use something like WD40 or Goof Off or Goo Gone to get the last bit off.

Needless to say, projects on the boat are easier to do during the winter than the summer because I'd rather ride than work.

However, I took some pictures of my Bu boat name, "HAYRIDE" for your enjoyment. Any pros and cons would be appreciated for the next decal project. Yes, it looks like transformers!!!

It’s actually easier than the overly long directions make it out to be.

See links.

I just signed up for flickr so hopefully the link works.

Reviving an old thread.

Since we ordered the new boat I was thinking about what my kids will call it. The last one was named barney, because of the purple.......not the fat guy in the drivers seat.

Now with the new color scheme I think it should be called "Atomic Wedgie" :yahoo:

Get it...Atomic orange and it has the wedge!!
