New Boat Pickup Procedure

A checklist to take with you when you take delivery of your new boat.

Plan to spend a couple of hours going over the boat, the further away the dealer, the more time you need to spend.

Confirmation of Order

  • Correct Model, Colors/Color Scheme
  • Exterior Colors: Base, Main Panel, Accents, Decals, etc
  • Interior Colors: Base, Main Panel, Accents, Piping, Carpet, Bead, etc
  • Correct Trailer: Single or tandem, Color, Accents
  • Correct Options: Are all options ordered are installed
  • Any dealer accessories included in deal, (bimini, cover, fire extinguisher, etc.)

Appearance

  • Gelcoat surface - Smooth, no scratches, blisters, or cracks: Take special note around fixtures!!!
  • Swim platform: Centered, smooth, all mounting screws, and smooth operation of Wedge door.
  • Wedge - Smooth operation
  • Decals: Straight, no bubbles or loose corners
  • Interior: Review all seats and cushions for quality work:
  • No wrinkles or cuts? Check for fit, especially corners and underneath cushions!!!
  • Windshield, check frame and glass and proper installation.
  • Netting in storage area, tight, attached well
  • Carpet (also check storage areas for loose points)

Operational (depends on in/out of water)

  • All dash switches, and the device it supports
  • All latches/locks, and hinges
  • All gauges (also check if tight)
  • Speedos
  • Horn
  • Lights, convenience, running
  • Bilge Pump
  • Blower
  • Steering
  • Throttle
  • Trailer - Winch, jack, lights, brakes, bearings

Familiarity Training

  • Location of: Drain plugs, blower, bilge pump, fuel filter(s), oil filter, oil drain, impeller, cooler drains, battery, stern light, serial number (engine, hull), circuit breakers, transmission, speedo pickups, water pickup, gas fill, oil fill, transmission fill, vdrive fill, fire extinguisher.
  • Starting procedures
  • Trailer tire pressure
  • Trailer brake fluid
  • Location & removal procedure for trailer spare tire

Maintenance

  • Review annual and interval maintenance items
  • Cleaning - Gelcoat, vinyl and carpet
  • Wax recommendation
  • Winterizing/Storage needs
  • Trailer lubrication
