Can you still Surf with Diamond Hull?

I'm interested in a VTX, VLX, or Sunscape 20 or 21.5 with Diamond hull to allow reasonable slalom wakes. If I have wedge or power wedge, and full 900-1250 ballast capability, can you wakesurf with the Diamond Hull? Seems like it wouldn't create much lift at 10 MPH, still give good surf wake with uneven ballast loading.

Also, is it easy to add installed ballast tanks to a Sunscape 21.5 which did not have them factory installed? How about adding bow ballast intalled tank if only the 2 rear and center were installed?

Yes you can absolutely surf w/ a diamond hull. The hull (diamond) doesn't really start creating lift until you're in the mid 20mph. Here is a thread regarding adding bow ballast after the fact. If you didn't get the under floor ballast installed at the factory its really not possible afterwards. You can plumb sacks in the rear compartments and utilize one of your accessory switches you have available.

Agreed,

We have an 06 VLX Diamond and only need a 750 in the locker to get a decent surf wake. We don't even have bow ballast yet (but hopefully soon).

Lean and wieght are more important than hull on this one.

I have an 07 VTX on a Diamond hull. With just the built in ballast and floating wedge we can surf it OK. If we add about 8 peeps in the boat, it surfs quite well. I plan on adding more ballast to it this year. The great thing about the Diamond hull, is that it does ski quite well, I've run the slalom course with it several times.

Yes you can very well but I think the 23 actually has better slalom wakes.

But the 23 takes a lot maore ballast to surf but when you get it right it is world class.

You can even surf behind a DD with Diamond hull - 01 SLXi. It's more difficult and that wave/board combination wasn't big enough to push me, but he had no problems with it.

500 lbs, wedge + 4 people. It surfs much better with 900 lbs, wedge & 7 people.
