Serious Transmission Problem

Recommended Posts

Once you see the price of a new transmission you'll answer your own question...

Just replace the bell housing and the damper plate and you're good to go.

Just replaced the damper plate on my 06 RLXI (430 Hours)....Neither Indmar nor Malibu would do anything for me in terms of replacement....Was on my own.....total cost for replacement including a new distributor cap and tranny service was $700.......funny thing is....I sometimes still hear a knocking type sound when the boat is idling forward but goes away as soon as i come up on the throttle.....I had also called Indmar with my engine serial number and confirmed that I had one of the "problem prone" plates in my boat.

Although the knocking sound drives me nuts, I sleep much better knowing I have a "reliable" damper plate in there.(knocking on wood !)nothing is a gurantee when it comes to boats !!!

$700 including parts and labor? That's not bad - did the dealer do it? I was giving serious thought to doing this myself. Anyone know where I can get the bell housing? I can't find one anywhere on the net. It's part # 53-1006. My tranny turns freely and there is no fluid anywhere so I think I just need the two parts. I would get the reinforced one here: http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R140019. The replacement seems straighforward but time comsuming. I don't have an engine hoist, any other recommendations?
