Oil Drain Plug Leaking

Hi Guys,

Finally found my source of my oil leak, and it turns out to be leaking from the oil drain plug at the pan.

I did some searches, but cannot find any info on how to replace it. It's a pretty tight fit between the plug and the bottom of the bilge area.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can replace the plug. It's a 2003 VLX with the monsoon engine.

Thanks,

Robert

You only have one option. And, I'm not sure with the leanback you can actually do the following in your V-drive.

Disconnect the propshaft at the coupler. Loosen the 2 transmission pinch-bolt mounts. Remove the 2 nuts on the engine mounts. Using a gantry lift the engine, tilting it on the transmission mounts. It won't go far before the V-drive contacts the hul, but if you're lucky it will be far enough to R&R the oil drain fitting. Depending on the year your fitting may be metric or standard thread, make sure your cross-check your engine serial number with the dealer if you are ordering a new one.

Ouch, I was affraid of that. Since I don't have that kind of tools, I guess I'll see what the repair shops charge.

Thanks for the info!
