Is it normal to get surface rust on a stainless steel wedge?

Hi all, we got a manual wedge on our 2008 vride, and its getting some surface rust, is this normal. we ski in salt water, im assuming thats why but how do i get rid of it and make sure it doesnt come back.

Fun fact, even stainless steel (normal grades anyway) will rust in salt water.

Your best best is to attach an anode.

You should make sure that you thoroughly rinse the wedge with fresh water as soon as you pull it from salt water. Anodes are usually used to control electrical currents when you leave the boat in the water. Not sure if anodes will help much with rust they are usually used to keep metal parts from being eaten up by stray electical currents. The currents will eat up the anode instead of eating up the metal. This is usually more of an issue in salt water because it conducts current better than fresh water.

West marine sells a stainless protectant that you could try. This works well on the stainless railings on my boat that I keep full time in salt water. I doubt it will last long for you because the wedge is basically pressure washed every time you take the boat out. It will do a good job of removing the rust though.

I would just make sure you rinse and wipe down the wedge every time you pull it out of the water.
