I Recently bought a 1997 Malibu Echelon LX. The boat is in excellent shape and only had 60 original hours on it. The only upgrades i have done so far is recovering the engine cover because a lit candle was tipped over on it, I replaced the malibu stickers onthe sides because one of them was scratched and i added a wakeboard tower. It has the upgraded fuel injected monsoon engine also. I was just wondering if there was an owners manual that could be downloaded or bought somewhere because the boat didnt come with one. I have read on here about this particular boat having a shower, where would this be located? Also are there any particular problems i should be aware of with this boat or any maintenance issues. This is my first inboard ski boat, I have a Mako saltwater boat but its just not the same. Any tips or wisdom you guys could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ricky

welcome to the club and congrats on the new rig.

shower could be mounted almost anywhere since it's an aftermarket item.

check for cold water lines near the raw water pump and hot water line from the block and follow them to the mixing valve. the shower head hose will connect to the mixing valve.

there is some base info about your boat here: http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/page/specifications/1997

and an indmar manual here: ttp://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/page/specifications/specs_main

good luck w the new ride

Showers could be installed at the factory or by the dealer. They could have placed them in the side panels or in the back of the boat. Its easy to tell if your has a shower. Look in the engine compartment for a red and blue hose. Back in 97 the valves that control the shower temp might have been in the engine compartment.

Congrats on the new boat. I love the Echelon, those are sweet boats.

Congrats on the new boat. No better feeling than finally getting that new boat sitting in your driveway.

Congrats and welcome, I'd love to see pics of your boat with a tower. Which one did you use?

As far as maintenance, other than replacing the impeller often enough, there are plenty of threads about that on here, search around. You'll learn more that way than if we start another here.

thanks for all of your advice. I went with an aerial tower because it was given to me. I will sent some pics as soon as we have a pretty day here in sw ga. I am also going to be replacing the factory stereo system and adding tower speakers but that's later.

I'll second the impeller thought. If you don't know for sure that it has been replaced within the last year, I would strongly advise replacing it.

Again, welcome to the Crew where we'll spend evey last cent you have...lol

I'd also recommend a full fluid change and all filters and run some injector cleaner as well. Also lube up the Rudder, there are zerk fittings located under the rear seat access area.

FYI We’ll be having a group buy on showers very soon, but it’ll only be open to supporting members.

Congratulations! I am sold on my Echelon as well, it's a great boat. Set up some pics!

On the maintenance, I'd just follow the manual Pete mentioned, and go thru it one item at a time. You may eventually encounter a problem that needs dealer (or forum) help, but at least you have taken care of the bulk of the items. They are pretty simple machines.

If you've never been in a direct drive boat before, be careful with bow and big waves, it doesn't take much to put one over the bow and soak the occupants (chili dipping).

Otherwise you can learn everything you possibly need to know right from this site.
