100hr Service

Taking the boat in tomorrow for some warranty repairs, 100hr service and dewinteriztion. I can de-winterize by myself but figured they can do it for free with the 100hr service. Any guess at what they want for this service call? 600 buckanooies! Seems pretty steep to me....... Called Bakes and they quoted $300. I could drag the boat all the way up there and still save money! Think I'm just gonna have them do the warranty repairs and save a ton of money. Any thoughts on what else should be done? Guess its going to finally force me to get an oil change service port made up. I will be doing the following:

engine oil/filter

impellar

trans oil

fuel filter

What else should I look at?

You don't need to change the fuel filter on the 09's, ask Paul for the details on that.

The other things you mention are part of the 100 hr service, didn't understand if you were going to do it or have the dealership do it?

I would service your trailer while your at it though, just have them give it the once over.

Well they were originally going to do the 100hr service when my gf called and set up the appt that is also to do a little warranty work. When she told me the price I about choked and then started investigating what would be done so I could do it myself. I think that price is crazy.... so now I think I'll just have them do the warranty work and do the rest myself. Just been crazy at work and haven't been too motivated to come home and turn wrenches as well! But I think $600 just motivated me. I don't mind paying people to do work that I don't want to do, it just seems like that is a total soaking.

$600 seems pretty steep, $300 sounds pretty fair though.

Call Chad at Fibercoat 360-560-5234. He can do all of that for you. Tell him Bryan sent you and I told you that he would give you the 'Tyler' special. He will be way cheaper and he can come to your house. If you really want to save money, find a place to get the parts and fluids yourself and take the boat to his shop in Longview. He is detail oriented. I had him do a complete rewire on a Nautique once, he did an amazing job.......

Unless you have money to burn - Just let the dealer do the warranty work! You can easily do all of the annual maintenance work yourself. It isn't rocket science. Great way to save money and become a little less dependent on the dealer.

Here's a tip for you. If you do the work yourself and your boat is under warranty save every single reciept for every product you use to do service on the boat. Document what you do as well. If something happens to the boat and you've been servicing the boat yourself and can't provide that info your warranty claim will mostly likely be denied. Malibu is getting very picky about warranty claims.

I was quoted about the same for my annual service. I would like to learn how to do it myself for several reasons but mainly to save some $$$$. I bought a globe impellar from D goose just waitin for it to come. What else do I need to do? and any tips on doing them?

All advice is greatly appreciated and I am very greatful for it.

Get one of the pumps that was previously posted and it'll make everything you do 100X easier!!! other then Impeller, got the oil change in the motor, Trans, and V drive. Manual recommends you replace them all annually. I'm with ya on this next step but, repacking the shaft seal and adjusting the shaft seal. I gotta get on that one. There is a few good articles I've read on it. Pistol Pete has a really good winterization/maintenance write up on his signature that is very useful. I found this, (http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/stuffing_box) on the shaft seal. Was a good write up.

Check your p.s. alignment, tower mounts, etc. FWIW I would recommend you have your 100 hr check up done by a malibu dealer for documentation, If they find something not right they will fix it cause it is under warranty, if you do it yourself and miss something and bring it in later for repair, you may get the run around. All your other routine maintenance you can do yourself.

Well I took the boat in to dealer and ended up having them do the service. They still didn't have the tower lights that were purchased with the boat last year so we worked out a trade. Told them to scratch the lights and just do the service for free. I think we got the better end of the deal and I was happy they were willing to compromise and take care of us. I do indeed plan on getting a pump for future services done by me. Definetely will be saving all the reciepts of those items, good reminder 06, thanks.

I took my boat to the same dealer yesterday they ended up charging me almost half of what they told me it would cost because it didn't take them nearly as long as they expected. Wow, was that a shocker. They earned a customer by doing that and a lot of respect from me.

Now, I better go back to one of the threads I posted in saying I would not be taking my boat back there except for warranty issues. They came through big for me today.

Sullivan, where do you ski?

Lake River, Columbia, Horse Shoe lake, Merwin, Yale, Swift and hopefully I can join Mint Lake soon! How about you, are you close by?

I replied to your e-mail. Where's lake river, columbia? Horse Shoe is visible from the freeway near Woodland? Is it open to the public?
