Perko switch question

Recommended Posts

I have the dual batteries with a Perko switch.

I switch it to off when I'm going to be away from the boat for more than a day or 2.

Does the bilge still work when in the off position?

When its in the slip its up on a lift but...

if the lift should ever fail...

and the packing leak too much .....

Better start leaving it on 1

You should be alright with it in the 1 position. The only thing drawing amperage will be the pump when it cycles and the clock in your radio.

It would take a couple of months for those items to kill the battery.

There should be a little wire that connects to the main on the switch or directly to the positive terminal on one of the batteries (would have a fuse holder in it), if that is connected the bilge will work. If a switch is properly installed it leaves the auto pump power from one battery so that the boat won't sink.

Installed a ProMariner ProSport 12.

So now I can leave them on and instead of drain they get charged while it sits on the lift in the slip.
