beeping/oil pressure sensor

Recommended Posts

I started having a constant beeping in my boat last summer. I figured out it was coming from the oil pressure sensor. The oil pressure is normal and if I detached the sensor it would stop beeping. I replaced the sensor and and it stopped for a while, then started again. I cleaned the connection and put some electrical grease on it. This helped for a while but now it has started again. The wire going to the sensor seems to be a little too short, which puts a bit of a bind on the connection. Not sure if that is the problem or what. If anyone has had this problem or has any advice I would appreciate any help.

If the beeping stops when you disconnect the oil pressure switch, you either have a bad switch or an oil pressure problem. If your gauge show normal pressure than the switch is the culprit. The switch is designed to fail in an alarm condition (fail safe). Fauly wiring would cause an alarm only if it was ground faulted (shorted to ground).
