Skim & Surf style wakesurfing?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to decide what wakesurf board to get and I'm still a little confused on what is "skim" style surfing and what is "surf" style surfing. Can someone clue me in? Also curious what is the difference between skim style boards and surf style boards.

Thanks in advance

Surf Style is basically just like a ocean surf board but generally smaller. It's thicker, made from foam and fiberglass and has larger fins in the back. This is considered easier to learn on because it's more stable and has more floatation. These are used for jumping and ocean type of surfing.

Skim style is a thin peice of wood that is rounded. It may or may not have fins (may be very small). These are generally faster (turning) and used to do spinning types of tricks.

It's like skateboarding... long board for cruising, slow....stylish turns, easier to ride = surf style board. Surfing.gif

Short board for fast turns, not as stable..."loose feel", easier to do tricks...once you get past the "loose" feel. = Skim style board Clap.gif

I personally like a surf board.... short for quicker turns, smaller fins to give a looser feel and better tricks, but still has the ability to just cruise down the lake without much effort. Yahoo.gif
