Pros and Cons

I am sure this issue has come up on here before, but I haven’t been able to search it out.

What do people think about colored hulls vs. white hulls?

Is one harder to keep clean? Does one show scratches/cuts/rub marks more than the other? Have you ever owned both? If so, which do you prefer?

Thanks all. Just curious to hear what the general consensus is.

The older hulls with solid colored hulls didn't warranty it IIRC around '05 they changed that policy. While solid hulls can look cool, in the end depend upon what color you select can really expose the wear areas more so to the visible eye. The care for scratches isn't any different the the rest of the gelcoat but much harder given the limited areas to work for access. The only time it's really noticed in on the trailer...whoopty doo oh and pay more. So I wouldn't.

I would never have a colored hull, It would show everything. Mine is white w/ a few black accents on the sides and above the rub rail and those are hard enough to keep the waterspots off of. I cant imagine crawling under the boat on a regular basis to keep it clean. On the other hand I wouldnt want an all white boat either, it just seems too plain IMO.

I've had all white, and white with black & blue. And my brother has all red. White shows everything, specifically all the lake funk from living on the water. Red shows it, but not nearly as bad, and it has a tendency to fade in years of direct sun. The blue shows it but not nearly as bad. Black looks great when it's cleaned & polished, but it scratches easily.

A buddy of mine has a white w/ green XTI. The green on that boat rarely shows any lake funk, and it doesn't have any scratching or fading tendencies. Obviously white doesn't fade or show scratches either. I'd bet this would be the best combination of all.

Plus1.gif White does show the lake funk really easily, but the scratches don't show near as bad as they do on the dark colors (dark red/black on our boat).

I have an all black hull with white decks. The black is murder cause it shows all the scratches and I go nuts every year when we're at the dock. But I really like the looks of it. So it really is a trade off. The white decks are a snap to keep clean and they don't show the scratches at all. I didn't order my boat, it was in the dealer showroom. If I had ordered it, I would have gotten an all black hull with red accents and a black deck with red accent too. But I don't have to deal with the water spots like some of you guys do. I guess our lake water isn't has hard, but I also don't go in salt water or brackish water.

I've had an all white boat and then had a mostly white boat with a wide band blue on the sides and blue on the deck over the transom. Yes, the white showed the lake gunk. Yes, the blue showed all of the scratches and started fading after several years. I could deal with all of that though. However, what I could not deal with was how hot the blue would get in the sun. We had to put towels over the blue deck and over the blue accents in the seating area. It made it difficult to get in/out of the boat and to do any sunbathing and/or hanging out on the back while tied up with other boats. Also, I could not rest my arm on the side of the boat over the throttle because the blue got so hot it would burn me. So, I bought an all white WS VLX. I love the colored hulls, but didn't enjoy the logistics have having colored hulls and accents.

Wow I never thought of that. The sun must be much hotter down south. Our red and black doesn't get hot enough to bother anyone on my boat. Heck there is a black and red stripe right where your throttle arm lays. That would suck!

Even the grey interior and the floor gets too hot to sit/stand on during the summer heat, but oh the summer heat I dream of 110+ days now....
