New Glove Box door!

Hello forum. For my first real post here thought I'd share some photos of my latest project. For thoose of you who also hang out on Wake World you know I'm always tinkering on my Bu'. I decided to add a little bling to my glove box door. It seems the only two choices are stock or chrome stock. I wanted a smooth glove box door that lit up. I shaved my old door to make a mold and added a light transfer acrylic sheet inbetween the fiberglass layers. Then all I had to do was put a Malibu sticker on the front and paint it! I didn't have a malibu sticker :(, so I made my own, not perfect but good enough for proof of concept. After I painted it I peeled the sticker. What remained was the Malibu outline that glows at night thanks to a single led light strip on the back of the door. Now that I knowe it works i'll be making it out of Carbon Fiber and coating it with a smoked clear coat so the Malibu is not visible in the day time unless inluminated. Should have the finished polished glove box door done by the end of the week! Trying to post some pics for the first time so hopefully this works!

p.s. Can't seem to figure out how to post pics, any help appreciatted.

p.p.s. Heres the link to my photobucket page

NICEThumbup.gif Can't wait to see mine. You are the MAN!!

Got some new pics. Fresh out of the mold in carbon fiber just needs some wet sanding and polishing. Then a good clear coat with uv protection to protect it from fading in the sun. Well machine the malibu out next week and light it up!

Very Nice. Where did you get the carbon weave? I did a cowling project on one of my giant scale model airplanes to keep the engine cool and made a mold and used fiberglass to make the cowling I needed. Carbon fiber would have been a bit lighter. Keep us posted and nice work! Thumbup.gif

I order my carbon fiber for small projects from tap plastics for bigger projects when you need more then a yard theres a supplier in Oakland or LA I use. Tap isn't bad at $50 a yard for a 50" wide piece. Its just hard to come by right now because of the war effort there's not as much running around.
