Orlando Ski Schools

We are going to be in Orlando/Tampa area over Spring Break and I thought about spending a couple days at a Ski School. I have 2 boys (18 and 16) who have just completed a full run on the course and are looking to get better. I'm just starting on the course. The boys probably wouldn't mind boarding a bit as well.

Anybody have a school they would recommend? How much time should we plan to spend at the school to get some benefit? Is 2 days enough?

I've been doing some research on wakeboard schools in the orlando area myself. There is one just outside of Orlando that has some pretty good reviews. "The Wakeboard Camp" seems to be good. I could go on the website and get pricing but it's only for a week that have it. So I'm thinking that you could call them and see what they say about a couple of days. If it were me and they were just starting out on boarding. Drop the kids off for a few days and go have some fun on your own. Good luck

The wakeboard camp is siiiick. great place to spend some time. Its out on the westside of whorelando, in clermont. Also just out of clermont is matt Rini. Definitely one of the best 3 event coaches in the world, if not the best. His students have seriously cleaned up at worlds and major events all year. Karina and whitney for a start.

Plus1.gif Rini is really laid back yet totally serious about getting you to understand what he's trying to teach you. Has a great knack for finding the right language/visuals/whatever it takes to get through to you so you understand on your level. Serious instruction, low pressure, reasonable rates. Highly recommended.

I skied 1 set at both Matt Rini's and Swiss Ski School on spring break a couple of years ago... both were great. I made the mistake of not bringing my own ski; both places set me up well but being on a new ski combined with not having skied for 4 or 5 months was a frustrating combination.

I'm heading back down this spring break and plan to go to atleast one of them again...this time with my ski. If I were to choose one place, I would probably choose Matt Rini's. Really laid back and great instruction. Plus he's canadian (gotta support the home team!). Really though, you can't go wrong with either of those 2 places.

Also Jodi Fisher used to have a program right on the Disney site; not sure if it is still there or not though. We went there one day to check it out and there was nobody to be found. Also Drew Ross ski academy isn't too far from Orlando I don't think.

Thanks for the suggestions. I talked with the Swiss Ski School last week. They seem to be very nice and have a great setup. Just not sure how good the instruction is. Where does Matt teach out of. Does he have accomodations etc. on the lake or do you stay off lake?

Matt teaches in Clermont, only a couple miles from Swiss Ski School..maybe even less. He has his own private lake with 1 full course and I believe another 4 ball mini course as well as a jump ramp. He has accomodations available, but not on site. His lake is tucked behind an orange grove. I believe there are details about accomodations on his website. Swiss, on the other hand has 6 different man made lakes and accomodations on site but I found the instruction to not be as good; Still exceptional, but I found Matt Rini to be very personable and relaxed. He coaches a lot of pros and still took the time to chat with us ordinary joes after our sets were done. With Swiss we were in and out quick to make room for the next guy. All that said, from my very limited experience with both places, I have no complaints at all with either. Swiss is also a world class tournament site with other activites as well, like golf.
