Box Anchor

I would like to build a box anchor look alike. Could someone measure their's so I will build it right. angle of the teeth would be nice too. Thanks

I have built several box anchors. I welded the teeth on at a 45 degree angle. I have used several different sizes of metal. I used gate hindges in the corners. To lock them open I got creative.

How heavy does it need to be? 3/16"X3 was what I was thinking 16" square.

Box anchor = only way to go.

The box anchor is great. The only time I've ever had a problem is when the milfoil was so thick that the anchor couldn't even reach the ground. Other than that it's always held great including the time I had a floatilla rafted up to me during a malibu wakeboard competition on a mudd puddle they called a lake. It was like open seas out there but my (small) box anchor held the group.

(I know this has been discussed before, but I can't remember the answer) Whistling.gif

06VLX, do you use a chain with your box anchor, or just anchor line?

No chain just an anchor buddy.

No chain here either, but I always have a rope in conjunction with the Anchor Buddy. When the Box Anchor is really planted, pulling on the Buddy that hard always makes me nervous it will break.

I used 1/4"x5 1/2" plate. It is about 12" square. I used a pipe just like the West Marine box anchor (no chain). If I were to do it over I would copy the specs of the anchor at West Marine. Mine is way to heavy(64#).

I finally got at building the anchor. I still might add a tooth in the middle, and was going to polish it a bit but don't think it is worth the time it would take

I cant remember exactly but i think the stainless one was $300 so a lot cheaper than that.

If it was made out of steel and painted it would have been about $ 50

satisfaction of doing it is worth the time it took
