Ballast draining

OK,

We surf the dark side and I keep loosing water in the bow tank.

I removed the cover and it looks like the vent is on the drivers side so when the boat is listing on the goffy side the water drains out.

Has anyone found a solution?

Its a pain because 1/2 hr into the ride the wave changes

The fix is to install a Ballast anti-syphon valve above the waterline in the vent line. Thumbup.gif

Or just turn the pump on Whistling.gif

I have my ballast above the seats in the bow and I had that problem in version 1.0 of my install no matter what I did just because of bow rise and there was no way to run the hoses higher than the bag anywhere to create a loop or place an anti-siphon valve. Same problem with the drain due to the height of the bag above the floor.

So what I did was add a 12V solenoid valve to the vent line. I tied the power into the 12V supply for the fill pump so it's only open when filling. On the plus side this also creates a vacuum when you're draining the ballast and if it happens to be a bag then it assists in squeezing the bag down and better draining it.

My bow ballast.

Where I added the vent valve.

I like that solution slurpee.

where did you get the 12V valve? it looks like a 3/4" Do they only come in brass?

I can even use one on the rear 750 in the trunk, nice.

Uhm Ebay. If you search for my Born again Fakesetter topic and look at the very end there's a link to my ballast topic where I link to the Ebay store. I'd look it up but I'm blackberry'ing right now and that's too much for this browser. LOL. Yes there are other materials. I believe I bought Bronze with a Viton seal for my ski locker since it's under water a lot.

Just so I don't let a temporary laziness pass here's the information you wanted.

First the thread to my install.

Then the link to the Valves for Projects Store on Ebay. The guy is real good to work with and ships fast. I believe he also has some stainless steel body valves for below the water line that come up on Ebay sometimes, but that he usually has if you ask. Since the internal mechanisms are all stainless and only the outside body is brass I figured I didn't need to pay 2x for the all SS valves.

If I recall correctly they draw about 1.4A at turn on inrush and I measured about 350mA holding current. Your dash switches will take it easily if wired in parallel with a pump or two.

Thats perfect I ordered 5 of the valves and some wire so all I need is for the weather to stay at 88 like today and all will be good.

Thanks again

You're welcome.

Let me guess.... The appraisers were uncooperative.

You should try over here in Harbor Lakes. Plenty of waterfront.
