Loose Transmission Mounts

Recommended Posts

I was cleaning out the bilge yesterday after draining a bunch of sand and junk out of the engine and my rag brushed up against the mount on the port side of the transmission. A heard a tinny noise that was from the lock plate under the trany arm spinning around the mount stud. When I loiked closer I saw that the bottom nut was all the way down and the top nut was backed off the lock washer. When I checked the other side the top nut was finger tight but not as bad as the first.

What is the proper way of tightening this or is this a big adjustment that I need to get a manual first? Dontknow.gif

Don't you have a remanufactured motor? if so when they replaced and realigned they may have forgoten to tighten it. Tighten them up and see if your D.S. coupler mating surfaces have changed.

Good memory, not the motor just a reman trans. My first thought was to raise the lower nuts until they were snug against the bottom of the trans mount arms and then tighten the top nuts with the split-ring lock washers.

Being new to this I am not up to speed on checking the coupler mating surfaces. Is that the area that is about .003 - .005 top measurement on the output flange where it meets up with the DS?

Yes, Your way of tightening is a good Idea if you are NOT experiencing vibration. If it is smooth, tighten away. I will try to copy my manuals coupler alignment section this afternoon and see if I can get it on this post.

I'll get it, once I find what the kids did with the manual Drool.gif
