Electric Brake Controller

Folks,

New to this forum, but am looking at an 2003 vlx and the trailer has electric brakes. I don't know a lot about trailer brakes, but know I will need the controller. My Tahoe is already fully prewired for trailer brakes from the factory but I just need the controller. Any opinions on a good one and what type I should get. I am pretty handy and can install myself (everything is plug and play now anyway it seems).

What is the process to adjust the controller so the trailer brakes work in conjunction wth the vehicle?

Anything I need to check on the trailer itself?

Can I run the trailer without the brakes for the trip home if necessary. I think the vehicle is rated at almost 8k towing capacity. I do have the trailer package. Actually pretty funny that I have had the vehicle for four years and never pulled a trailer (1996 Silverado does all of that).

Thanks for the help in advance.

Oh, going to look on Sat so any advice today would be great. Thanks.

Brian

Adjust the brakes so that when you slide the controller all the way to just activate the trailer brakes the vehicle will not move while in nuetral. That's how I was taught.

Here's a few controller options
